Flesh can only wound flesh. Man may kill you, but not take anything of eternal value from you. Why should you fear of losing that which you have already given to Christ? You have no life to lose because you have given it to Christ already.

Ps 56:4: In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. Leave a comment
Ps 119:105: Your word is a lamp unto my feet; and a light unto my path Leave a comment
First thing I always note on this verse is that the lamp shines at our feet. So, though we may not see the whole end of the path or even where it goes…we are able to see where we should step. There are many who think they can go through life–dark and dangerous as it [...]
Ps 119:114: “You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.” Leave a comment
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Above all, take the shield of faith, wherewith you will be able to quench ALL the fiery darts of the wicked. The shield to which we take refuge in is faith. The just shall live by it. The word is the helmet of salvation [...]
Deut 8:3: And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. Leave a comment
The temptation of Christ cannot be understood apart from the law. The temptations offered by Satan required a declaration of independence from God and His law and the choice of the creature’s will as ultimate law. The answer of Christ to each temptation was a quotation from the law. The direction for history had to [...]
Luke 2:17: When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, Leave a comment
Once they saw, they understood. The sound of the mockingbird is beautiful at 2PM. It is raucus noise at 2AM. Yet the song is the same. At two in the morning I don’t want to hear it. I want to sleep. I wonder how many other things I see, hear, and dont understand, yet want [...]
Is 8:20: “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Leave a comment
Those who want to base public policy on something other than the Bible, show that scripture does not support their point of view. The bible is the test of all doctrine. Whatsoever does not harmonize and square with this, is not to be received. There is but one standard of the everlasting right and the [...]
Psalm 119: 160: “All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.” Leave a comment
Etymologically, the word “true” and “tree” are similar. Both words ultimately go back to an Indo-European root deru– or dreu–, appearing in derivatives referring to wood and, by extension, firmness. Truth may be thought of as something firm, or a foundation. It is for that reason that Jesus was able to say “I am truth.” [...]
Rev 1:9: I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. Leave a comment
The only brotherhood of which the Bible speaks is the brotherhood of believers. God is the creator and maker of all men and in that sense all men are His offspring, but God is Father only to those who believe. Patmos was a lonely isle in the Aegean Sea. It was about 30 miles in [...]
John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” Leave a comment
God knows the hearts of men, and He knows what their true needs are. God doesn’t have to guess what they might need – He KNOWS; and His Word, when preached faithfully, does its job of addressing the individual’s need. A man of veracity makes a true statement. Veracity is, therefore, a personal moral attribute, [...]
Ps 18:30: As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. Leave a comment
Some translations uses “blameless” instead of “perfect.” “Perfect” can have some demands placed on its definition that are only relative to the one using the word. Or, rather, I may think something is perfect, but someone else does not. So, “perfect” can only mean that which “is characteristic of a God who’s ways are perfect.” [...]
John 8:31-32: If you abide in my word, then you are truly my disciples Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free Leave a comment
I think the strength of these verses is in the conditional word “abide.” Abide: to endure without yielding, to bear patiently, to accept without objection. The condition is genuine. The precondition for freedom is not in simply hearing the truth; but comes from “knowing” the truth. But all this hinges on yielding, bearing & accepting [...]
Mal 1:1: “The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.” Leave a comment
“Malachi” means “my messenger.” Malachi was the last of the Hebrew prophets. Malachi gave his prophecy during the period of Nehemiah’s absence from Jerusalem at the court of Persia. I have loved you,” says the LORD. “ Yet you say, ‘In what way have You loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” Says the LORD. [...]
John 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Leave a comment
If God chose to represent Himself in terms of a language we can know is the glorified person of Christ, then the implications are enormous for us as persons and users of language. (“word”=logos=reason, communication, etc). The word was not created at the beginning or in creation. The word, as God, was already there. He [...]
Ps 138:2: I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. Leave a comment
We have seen repeated examples of leaders who say one thing and do another. Once upon a time, a verbal contract meant something. Now, unless you get it in writing, it may be valueless, and even then one can attempt litigation to unbind the note. God, however, exalts his word as a crucial part of [...]
James 1:22: Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 1 comment
A man who views himself in a mirror, leaves, but has to look again to remember is vain. But, so is the man who knows the word, but it produces nothing. Memorization is fine but mobilization is better. Memorization without mobilization is deception….and not just deception, but self-deception. We trick ourselves into believing we are [...]
