Obviously the larger picture here is forgiveness. Earlier the Greek word translated schemes was the root word for “method.” Here the Greek term comes from a root word meaning “the mind.”

II Cor 2:10-11: But whom you forgive anything, I forgive also; for indeed what I have forgiven, if I forgive anything. I did it for your sakes in the presence of Christ, in order that no advantage be taken of us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes. Leave a comment

Unforgiveness gives satan an edge to outwit us.

Do we believe that God can garrison the imagination far beyond where we can go?
James 4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. resist the devil, and he will flee from you” Leave a comment
The most important thing is to submit to God–and that means submitting to the temptation He has allowed. Jesus submitted to being tempted in the wilderness because He knew His Father had a hand in it. Knowing this gave Him resolve and comfort that He was not alone in the battlefield. Many give up, grow [...]
Mark 1:12-13: And immediately the spirit driveth him into the wilderness. And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him. Leave a comment
It is impossible, in this life, to escape the assault of temptation. Temptation, however, is used for the good in that it strengthens the nerve and sinew of our minds and hearts and souls. The ancient Hebrew writers made a practice of using numbers to symbolize ideas. Forty, in their minds, was a “fourspace number [...]

Satan smote Job, not God. The actual texts take less than two of the forty-two chapters of the Book of Job, less than five percent. If God does not waste words then he spent forty chapters hoping to reveal something. Because he knew Job’s heart and he wanted to purify this “blameless and upright” man. [...]
Job 2:4: So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. Leave a comment
“Skin for skin” is a proverb of the east that has been variously interpreted. Most likely it means that Job has only been tested at only the superficial level and, therefore, has a superficial, response. His philosophy was (and is) that men are basically self-centered creatures. When you attack them directly, they will give way, [...]
Job 1: 7: The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, “From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.” Leave a comment
Rather than banishing him from heaven, God calls him into accountability. Satan’s confession is of a vagabond spirit, pacing the earth with frustration of a caged lion and preying upon unsuspecting victims. In stark contrast to God’s orderly and meaningful nature, Satan epitomizez the ultimate of evil, when alienation, aimlessness, and anxiety–the essence of hell–obsess [...]
Job 1: 6: One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. Leave a comment
God is not threatened when satan appears among the “angels” (or some translations use “sons of God”) at heaven’s council. Without an invitation, Satan intrudes upon heavens council meeting. Satan, however, comes to disrupt, not to learn. Howso with many Bible critics.
