Mal 2:10 Have we not all one father? has not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?   Leave a comment

Though the phrase may be cliche, there is a “Brotherhood of man,” and its foundation is that God created us all. The shallow non-thinker denies this and instead creates some theory out of his own imagination to explain creation. Their imagination has never been successful at explaining what is, so instead they fortify their beliefs [...]

Mal 4:1: For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.   Leave a comment

The day of the Lord will be a time of fierce judgment on the earth, and the wicked will be burned like stubble. In scripture, “fire” is often associated with judgment, for it is a symbol of the holy wrath of God.

Mal 3:7: Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?   2 comments

Sacrilege is robbing God, and it is sacrilege to compromise or limit our obedience to God, or to set our own standards as to what constitutes valid obedience. The people were amazed at the idea that God wanted them to “return” unto Him. As far as they were concerned, they were good faithful worshippers of [...]

Mal 3:7-12: Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return? Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts   Leave a comment

Not only did the people bring the Lord defective sacrifices, but they failed to bring tithes and offerings commanded by the law. Consequently, He cursed their blessings and destroyed their crops. When we rob God, we only rob ourselves. We cannot keep anything that rightfully belongs to God. This text has often been used to [...]

Mal 1:1: “The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.”   Leave a comment

“Malachi” means “my messenger.” Malachi was the last of the Hebrew prophets. Malachi gave his prophecy during the period of Nehemiah’s absence from Jerusalem at the court of Persia. I have loved you,” says the LORD. “ Yet you say, ‘In what way have You loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” Says the LORD. [...]

Mal 3:16-18 Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.   Leave a comment

The importance of maintaining ones fear of God is always relevant.

Emphasize “meat.” The place which is considered a storehouse is to provide weighty deep truths about God. Giving your tithe to a social club that runs under the guise of a church is not the same thing.

Mal 1:8: “And if Ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and the sick, is it not evil? Offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the Lord of hosts.   Leave a comment

God made it clear to Israel from the very beginning that nothing which was to be offered to Him was in any way to be maimed or defiled. In other words, when you give secondhand clothing to the mission, don’t chalk it up as thinking God will give you credit for it. Granted, missions can [...]

Mal 3:6: “I am the Lord, I change not”   Leave a comment

Charles Spurgeon referred to this as the “doctrine of THE IMMUTABILITY OF GOD.” Unchanged is the essence and attributes of God (His Character), along with his intent and promises, as we do not know what God is made of (spirit) and so remains the question of boundaries. Once in his younger and cruder days, God [...]
