Do not doubt but believe The Greek phrase used is quite difficult to translate into English. Greek has two forms of imperative. In other words, you can tell somebody to do something in two different ways. What is known as an aorist imperative means “do this action once.” If I asked someone to open a [...]

John 1:17: “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” 1 comment
The law defined sin, but the law could not save. Salvation was supplied by the grace of God. Law and grace cant be separated. Dan Delzell, in the Christian post, wrote: “Notice that the contrast is not between grace and truth. It is between the Law of the Old Testament and the Gospel of the [...]

John 8:12: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Leave a comment
The light of life means two things. The Greek can mean either the light which issues from the source of life or the light which gives life. In this passage it means both.
John 20:23: “Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.” Leave a comment
Unforgiven sin is retained.
John 9:16: Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. Leave a comment
This was a false charge. Christ did keep the Sabbath, but not according to the Pharisees idea of Sabbath-keeping.
John 6:30-31: Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.. The people wanted a sign. Leave a comment
Yesterday they wanted to crown Him as king; today they wanted another miracle for further proof He was worthy.

“May very many exclaim, as the translator has often done when studying numerous passages in the original, I have found the Messiah!” -Helen Spurrell
John 5:39-40 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life. Leave a comment
Without God grace, even reading the Bible does not guarantee anyone will see the truth in it. The New Testament never presents itself as a contrary testament. It doesnt compete with the old, but completes the Old. It supplements rather than supplants. It makes the Old obvious, not obviated. That is the way the New [...]
John 5:46: “If you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for He write of Me. But if you don’t believe His writings, how will you believe My words. Your accuser is Moses.” Leave a comment
So to understand Moses is to come to know Christ when He is revealed. Likewise, Abraham saw Jesus’ day and was glad, the Bible testifies. And “…foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU.” (Gal)

John 6:29: Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” Leave a comment
This was Jesus response to his disciples after they had witnessed him walking on water. “What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?” They asked. His response in vs 29 wasn’t really a direct answer. So, instead, after just seeing him walk on water, they ask “What sign shewest thou then, [...]
John 1:14: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the father), full of grace and truth”. Leave a comment
To say that the word became flesh does not imply that he ceased to be God. Rather he added the condition of humanity to what he already was. Grace is power. That whereby God works in nature is called power. That power whereby He works in the wills of His reasonable creatures is called grace. [...]
John 17:17 “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” Leave a comment
God knows the hearts of men, and He knows what their true needs are. God doesn’t have to guess what they might need – He KNOWS; and His Word, when preached faithfully, does its job of addressing the individual’s need. A man of veracity makes a true statement. Veracity is, therefore, a personal moral attribute, [...]
John 1:18: No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known. Leave a comment
This revelation is complete. Before the New Testament or any of its books and letters even existed, what writings the world had were only like a half image. Holy men in vain tried to read its meaning til the fullness of Christ came. (I Peter:11-15). But, now, that unto us a Child is born the [...]
John 3:3: Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of heaven Leave a comment
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. If we are not born sinners, why must we be born again? In John 3:6 and other places, it is said that we must be born [...]
