Said Luther: “Learn to know Christ and Him crucified. Learn to sing a new song–to despair of your works, and to cry unto Him, Lord Jesus, Thou art my righteousness, and I am Thy sin. Thou hast taken upon Thee what was mine, and given to me what was thine; what Thou was thou became, [...]

II Cor 5:21: For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. Leave a comment
II Cor 2:10-11: But whom you forgive anything, I forgive also; for indeed what I have forgiven, if I forgive anything. I did it for your sakes in the presence of Christ, in order that no advantage be taken of us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes. Leave a comment
Obviously the larger picture here is forgiveness. Earlier the Greek word translated schemes was the root word for “method.” Here the Greek term comes from a root word meaning “the mind.”
II Cor 3:18: But we with open face beholding as in a glass the lory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord Leave a comment
A beautiful statue once stood in the market place of an Italian city. It was the statue of a Greek slave girl. It represented the slave as tidy and well dressed. A ragged uncombed little street girl, coming across the statue in her play one day, stopped and gazed at it in admiration. She was [...]
II Cor 2: 11: in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes. Leave a comment
Unforgiveness gives satan an edge to outwit us.
II Cor 3:14-16: But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Leave a comment
Many people believe they understand the scriptures yet are simply blinded by their own preconceived notions. (“the veil remains”). Their own prejudices controlled their thinking.
II Cor 1:9: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God that raiseth the dead Leave a comment
By ourselves we should have been sentenced to death for our sins and transgressions. God changed that.
II Cor 1:20: For however many are the promises of God, their Yes is in him; therefore, the Amen from us also goes through him to God for glory. Leave a comment
The glory of the new creation, both in time and eternity, shall surpass the glory of Eden, and the hope set before us is beyond anything the world has yet known. The community of the atonement is the new creation of God, and its end is altogether glorious.
II Cor 10:5: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” Leave a comment
Men cannot find God in their imaginations. Only he seeking for Him apart from their imaginations can they find Him. The imagination is spoken of as a “vain thing” in scripture that can weaken or usurp the effectiveness of the word of God. The word “imaginations” here could be translated “reasonings of natural men.” The [...]
II Corinthians Leave a comment
A characteristic of ancient and modern cults alike is the use of secret levels of knowledge. Blind, ignorant obedience is demanded as the test of fidelity. Christianity, however, demands knowledge, growth, and understanding. Written and compiled by Zorek Richards. [C]2002-10 II Cor 2:14: “Now thanks be unto God who always causeth us to triumph in [...]
II Cor 1:1: Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the church of God in Corinth, together with all the saints throughout Achaia: Leave a comment
Achaia, before the Roman conquest in 146 B.C., is a strip of land between the gulf of Corinth in the north and Elis and Arcadia in the south, embracing twelve cities leagued together. The Achaean League was prominent in the struggle of the Greeks against Roman domination. It is probably due to this fact that [...]
II Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Leave a comment
God is creating anew beginning with Christ, the second Adam. A man in Christ is a new creation, not merely improved or reformed, but remade. Reconciliation is not just politely ignoring hostilities (sin, etc). It is the total removal of hostilities so there can be a relationship, a fellowship, between God and man that will [...]
II Cor 12:7-9: And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Paul, e.g., recognizes that his “thorn in the flesh” is under God’s sovereign control. But the “thorn” is “a messenger of Satan”. The same phenomenon may be viewed from two aspects. The peirasmon is a trial of one’s faith controlled and, even in some sense, sent by God. But God is not the author of [...]
II Cor 1:3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort Leave a comment
The Greek word for “comfort” is parakaleo, which means “to call alongside of.” The Holy Spirit is called the Paraclete. When Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit, He said, “I will not leave you comfortless.” God loves us. But we are not saved by Gods love, we are saved by Gods grace…which is a [...]
II Cor 7:9-10: yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. Leave a comment
Godly sorrow works repentance or repentance is brought about by Godly sorrow. The repentance is toward God…not man. Though it might produce it sometimes, it is not something which occurs as a result of getting “caught” with your “hand in the cookie jar” or something like that. It is brought about by truly recognizing that [...]
